How this all began
This 3D printing team began as a robotics team last year, when Ms. Monia Cheikh decided to start an FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics team. Over the course of the season the team came together and competed in three robotics competitions. After the robotics season ended, the team was looking for a new and different engineering challenge. The FabSLAM competition was a perfect fit. It included all the aspects of design, engineering, and teamwork the team was looking for. What made this more exciting was the EKOCYCLE 3D printer the team had won during their robotics season. This printer uses filament made from recycled coke cans and is environmentally friendly. After the FTC season, the 3D printer came and the team began to set it up, but they were still looking for a challenge. Ms. Cheikh suggested the FabSLAM 3D printing competition, something she had mentored students on in past years. This was a perfectly timed challenge for the team to work together, designing and engineering on a new project!
